Why I’m Running
Dear Neighbor,
Alaska is at a crossroads. The opportunities and the challenges for our state have never been greater. I’m running for Governor of Alaska because I care deeply about the state’s future. I believe I have the experience to guide us through this historic time.
As a small business owner, an oil field worker, and a prosecuting attorney, I have learned what life is like for most Alaskans. I know what it is like to have my livelihood depend on oil production, to struggle to pay bills while going to school and building a family. I have benefitted from the great opportunities in this state and I want to make sure that our children have the same chance to succeed.
Our responsibility to the next generations of Alaskans demands that we continue to make improvements in our public institutions. The examples are numerous. Our schools, while good, should be great. Our roads, currently not-so-good, should be a lot better. Our crime rates, which are among the worst in the nation in some categories, are shameful and demand swift action.
And there is the gas line.
No other opportunity is a big as this project. No other economic event will have as big an impact on the state for the foreseeable future. We must get this done right and we must get this done now. Having the right person leading the state during this crucial time will be the difference between the economic success or failure. The way forward on the gas pipeline requires tough negotiations and the willingness to use every tool at the state’s disposal to make certain that Alaskans receive a fair value for the irreplaceable gas resources that will flow through the line. My experience working to create our current oil tax laws, which led to the deposit of $5 billion into various state savings accounts in 2008, will serve the state well as we get our gas flowing to market.
Now is the time to seize the future for Alaskans, to capitalize on our opportunities, and to ensure that all hard working Alaskans can build families and pursue dreams. Now is the time to elect a governor with the real world experience, the work ethic, and the common sense to secure Alaska’s future.
Now is the time that I need your support and your vote on election day.
Yours,
